About Me
I am the parent of a headstrong, independent and beautiful daughter and, for the past sixteen years, I have worked as a Behaviour Consultant, specialising in the field of Autistic Spectrum Disorder, specifically with children, adolescents and young adults.
I am passionate about understanding children’s behaviour from the child’s perspective, understanding the triggers that set them off on a path of worrying behaviour, and about empowering children to take responsibility for their actions while having the love and support of their parents or carers.
The idea of The Happy Step came about because parents outside of the sphere my consultancy work began to ask me about the specific techniques I use with my own child to overcome certain types of problematic behaviour, and how I go about encouraging positive behaviour. As parents we often feel at sea when trying to deal with our child’s behaviour, and it becomes even more troubling when we feel we’ve tried everything without success. That’s a scary place to be.
I realised that we are all confronting universal behaviour issues when it comes to our children: refusal to do homework, friendship issues at school and temper tantrums to name a few, and that the techniques I’d honed in a professional capacity could be successfully applied to all of these issues to achieve a positive outcome for both parent and child.
Through the Happy Step I will share with you my experiences, thoughts and strategies surrounding child behaviour, so that you might put these in place as a parent or carer yourself. On this site you will find blog posts, downloadable e-books, and my signature ‘Essential Toolkit’ which will equip you with the theoretical background and strategies that you’ll need to overcome almost any behaviour issue you face in a calm, fair and consistent way.
There is also information about the types of services I can personally provide should you need more one to one advice.
Please take a look around, have a read and take a Happy Step forward in your parenting journey.
